Bruce Tate's recent book "Beyond Java" presents a view of the Java language as "showing its age", while newer languages and not so new languages rear their heads with concepts not available in Java.

This presentation looks at Tate's premises and does a little navel gazing.

Gervase is a CIJUG board member who has been coding Java since 1997. Two years ago, he realized that he was no longer merely coding in Java, but writing declarations in XML and feeding them to Java XML processors. Therefore, truly, when you have a hammer, every problem looks like it needs a nail.
